Places to eat in Hayle and beyond

by Three Mile Beach

Our favourite restaurants in Hayle

We might be in the wilds, but there are plenty of great spots for food and drinks. Some are walkable, some are a short drive away to the restaurants in Hayle and beyond. All are tried, tested, and recommended by us.

Chomp

We might be a little biased but Head Chef Olly serves up a vibrant array of plates bursting with worldly flavours, locally sourced ingredients, foraged treasures, and seasonal freshness. Small and large sharing plates to suit every palette and dogs are welcome too.

Birdies Bistro

A wood cabin overlooking the rather lovely estuary at Hayle, a real mecca for birdlife of all types. There are lots of outside tables here with great estuary views, perfect for sitting out in the sunshine on a warm day. Birdies offers tasty breakfasts and lunches using local and seasonal produce including fresh local fish – check out their bubble and squeak served with eggs and bacon. They also offer dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Family friendly with welcoming staff makes Birdies popular with locals and visitors alike.

The Old Forge, Lelant

The food here is super tasty with a tempting array of options, including plenty for vegans and vegetarians. Great for a relaxed breakfast or tuck into Italian-style pizza and pasta for lunch and dinner (Gluten Free options also available). Eat indoors or on the small covered terrace area outside. There are only limited parking spaces at the bistro, but if these are taken then the Lelant Station car park is only a few minutes’ walk away.

Angarrack Inn, Angarrack near Hayle

Close to Hayle, in the pretty, unassuming village of Angarrack, awaits this down-to-earth, friendly pub. It serves lovely local beers and classic pub meals including a good big plate of sausage and mash and the most amazing pies. It gets full-on festive at Christmas time.

Cornish Arms, Hayle

A cosy traditional pub tucked away in the middle of Hayle, close to the Library and Fire Station. Not the most exciting location, but inside you’ll find a warm welcome, roaring log fires in the cooler months and plenty of tables in the restaurant and bar areas. This is a good option for a hearty Sunday lunch only a short distance from Three Mile Beach.

Fish & Chips in Hayle (£)

Sanders Fish and Chips Restaurant, Hayle

Extensive taste testing over the past couple of years has led us to the conclusion that Sanders Fish and Chips is the best in Hayle. The queues outside testify to this. You’ll find it under the viaduct next to Hayle train station. Once you have your mitts on your fish and chips, we recommend getting stuck in straightaway while enjoying the views over the estuary.

Mid-range restaurants in Hayle and St Ives (££)

Salt Kitchen Bar

More of a bar and restaurant than a pub, Salt is worth a visit for the local Monkfish scampi and Cornish fishcakes alone. A broad menu offers lots of other options too, though. They also have a good selection of wine and local Skinners’ ales. You’ll find it in the centre of Hayle beneath the viaduct.

Trevaskis Farm Restaurant, Carhell Green

Just down the road from Three Mile Beach, the farm restaurant at Trevaskis is open every day from 8.30am serving hearty breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The food here is all about good value, sizeable portions and local produce. The large menu has ‘something for everyone’ and lots of child-friendly options. The pudding counter is whopping with huge cakes, pies and trifles. Pick up local produce and artisan treats from the large farm shop afterwards.
